Tour de Ed

The second annual Tour de Ed in on it's way. But before I tell you about the ride, I want to stop and thank EVERYONE that has helped, or shown support, or asked what they can do to help Ed. I shouldn't be amazed at how much support Ed has received from the community, but nevertheless, I'm amazed. Thank you everyone for your help.

Okay, you came here to learn about the ride. The ride is the old Almond Blossom ride and takes you on a pleasant 20 or so mile ride on quiet country roads through the almond orchards when the trees are in full bloom.

The ride starts at the Chico City Hall Parking Lot (on 5th Street between Main and Wall St.) and we'll have a police escort out of town to those quiet country roads I was talking about. Awesome. Thank you Chico P.D.

Registration opens the morning of the ride at 7AM with the ride starting at 10AM sharp.
"Gee, registration opens awfully early." you say?
We did that on purpose so you could come downtown, register before the crowds hit, then go find a nice place downtown to have breakfast, maybe wander through the Farmer's Market two blocks over, or grab a cup of coffee from one of several excellent coffee shops within four blocks of the start.

Helmets are required for safety, so if you want to pick up a helmet, or get that flat tire repaired so you can join the ride, there are several established bike shops within easy walking distance from the Chico City Hall.

The ride heads west out of Chico, then south through the orchards to Durham, where we'll have a rest stop stocked with all the goodies Chico Velo is famous for. You know our motto -- "You can go for time or you can go for weight." There will the a running race going on it Durham at the same time, so you might have a wait a few minutes at the road closure until there is a break in the runners. Runners, cyclists -- we're all in the same family. After Durham, the ride turns north on Jones Ave. where it connects with the Midway Bike Path and back to town.

The ride is about supporting Ed and letting him know how much we care. But it's also about doing what Ed would do, which is riding his bike. ALL proceeds for the ride goes to the Chico Cyclist Care Fund to help Ed with his recovery. To make sure even more money goes to Ed, we're looking for sponsors to help us cover the expenses of the ride -- everything from signage to wrist bracelets to food for the rest stop. If you would like to help, you can download a sponsorship form by clicking here and simply let us know which level you would like to commit to and we'll contact you later. It's that simple.

Thank you for entering the ride, to show your support for Ed.
