Rice Valley Tandem Rally

The 2008 Quincy Weekend Ride has been canceled - but we will be back in 2009!(see statement on the canceled rides at www.ChicoVelo.org).

THE FIRST LAUNCH OF THIS RIDE WAS TO BE IN 2004, but incessant rain caused it to be cancelled. However, many of the local riders have done this ride and can attest to its attractions.

From the shores of Lake Oroville to the granite peaks of the Sierra Nevada, this ride takes you from the Sacramento Valley over the crest of the Sierras to the quaint mountain village of Quincy. Be forewarned these are hilly miles and you should be in sufficient shape to complete them. Day One you'll meet in the van in Oroville that will transport your baggage to Quincy. As you begin your ride the foothill oak woodlands will fade into pine & fir forests and mountain meadows. The North Fork of the Feather River flows below you on the north side of the ridge, the Wild and Scenic Middle Fork of the Feather on the south. Descending to Bucks Lake you'll find stores and cafes. Charming Meadow Valley and historic Spanish Ranch brings you into Quincy for your overnight stay. We will have one stocked rest stop on the way up.

Rice Valley mapYou can camp at the Plumas-Sierra Fairgrounds or choose a motel/hotel of your choosing. The Plumas County Arts Council will be holding their annual Blues and Brews Festival at the Fairgrounds for your listening and beer tasting enjoyment.

Day Two Return ride on Sunday offers three possibilities.

1. Hwy 70, Feather River Scenic By Way. The proverbial downhill with a tailwind. Least climbing option.

2. Retrace route from Saturday.

3. Return to Oroville via the Quincy- LaPorte Rd., through Challenge and Forbestown -- the option with the most climbing.

Head's Up on this ride: Day 1 is approximately 65 to 70 miles and has a total accumulated elevation gain of around 8,000+ feet. Day 2 is approximately 80 to 85 miles....mostly downhill.....but still has an accumulated elevation gain of around 2,000 to 2,500 feet. So, after two days of riding, you're looking at about 140+ miles and around 10,000 feet of total climbing.

Helmets are REQUIRED!
